Ok, the news is finally out! Special 42nd ARGN netcast from 42 Entertainment's new California offices!
(link)

I has excitement - I go to Old Pasadena this weekend :D Though there's really only Saturday and Sunday morning to enjoy the sites (when not at 42E).

But I has anxiety too... My initial ride to and from the airport here bailed a while back, meaning I needed to find a ride to the Buffalo airport for a flight out at 4:30pm Friday, and a ride back from Buffalo Sunday night when my flight arrives at 12:30am (Monday morn)... I managed to find a ride for the 12:30am return, but he's now bailed due to vehicle difficulties. I now have only one potential ride for Friday, and nothing for Sunday night. *mourns* My only other option is spending upwards of $100 on bus/train/shuttle just to get to/from home and the airport - based on bus scheduling, it means leaving at 6am Friday and giving me 5 1/2 hours in Buffalo before the flight leaves, and unless I go straight to work after after a 5 hour overnight coach ride it begs for two work vacation days instead of one, when I'm already overdrawn 2 for this year.
This sucks.

But it's offset by the infinite awesomeness of the rest of the news.
[This] is now, as far as I know, the location of 42 Entertainment.

Watch for ARG Netcast #42 early next week, brought to you from sunny Pasadena!
:D

YaY You! jealous cat is jealous! This is when I'm usually in Cali, and I wanna gooooooooooooooooo.

ahem ...sorry.

I hope you have a super fantabulous time! The transportation stuff will get figured out.

Looking forward to hearing all about it!
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 03:16 am (UTC)
do you vacation to cali regularly? to bad you won't be, coulda met up. oh well...

I think I just may be resorting to the costly means. *sigh*
AnniCat[info]annicat on November 29th, 2007 03:24 am (UTC)
I used to go to Cali about every 6 months. Two of my best quit buds are out there, and we'd celebrate our anniversaries together.

Whatever it takes, hon.
aliendial[info]aliendial on November 29th, 2007 12:11 am (UTC)
Have you tried to see how cheap a car you can get from Alamo or Dollar or one of the other cheaper rental agencies? May not be cheaper than the bus with 3 day rental (plus tolls, plus gas, plus parking in Buffalo - there are cheaper lots across the street with courtesy bus service). but the schedule would be under your control.
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 01:21 am (UTC)
I'm not so worried about the schedule as the cost... but, it would be an option if I had license ;) I'm a public transit guy. Usually going out of town, I'm with someone else for the same reason... it's special occasions like this that make it a pain :)
aliendial[info]aliendial on November 29th, 2007 11:31 am (UTC)
Yep, that would be a major shortcoming of this idea - the no license thing. Well best of luck, and enjoy! It sounds way way cool!
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 01:57 pm (UTC)
thanks, I'm hoping to get lots of pictures, and I'm assuming others will be too :)
konamouse[info]konamouse on November 29th, 2007 01:43 am (UTC)
I finally have the whole weekend off and didn't get an invite to California (or I would have helped out with transportation).
/me is jealous also!

/me thinks about something to call into ARGNetcast about....yup, got it!
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 01:58 am (UTC)
transportation between Kitchener and Buffalo? or you mean in Pasadena?
konamouse[info]konamouse on November 29th, 2007 03:25 am (UTC)
I kinda meant in Pasadena (or you could have flown to Las Vegas and we could have carpooled to LA - it's only a 5 hour drive).
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 04:09 am (UTC)
hehe actually jamesi's renting a car... though we're staying in Old Town Pasadena for the weekend, with everything as they say within walking distance, so it's unlikely we'll be resorting to transportation. Only being there just over 1 day makes it easier to accept not needing transportation :)

5-hour drive??? What lane do you drive in???
Ozy_y2k[info]ozy_y2k on November 29th, 2007 02:04 am (UTC)
I've been out of the ARG loop for quite some time now, so I might be missing something obvious, but....is it my imagination, or is the 42 Entertainment executive staff less than a third of the size it used to be, on the website? Was there some sort of split or spinoff or something like that?
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 02:17 am (UTC)
good eye!
it's actually been mentioned over at unfiction... I don't know what to think yet.

But certainly we won't be meeting up with Elan and Sean this weekend :(
They're still in Seattle with their new startup

I'm really excited about it all. I think that this is a great move for Elan, Sean, and Jim. The timing is great. I'm also anxious to see what all Jordan's new company comes up with - just imagine the fun they're having and going to have.

The biggest hit, obviously, is to 42, but they'll make it through just fine. They had put out a strong sense of the auteur which wasn't necessarily the best long term move - once the auteurs leave, then what do you have. But the fact of the matter is that while Sean & Elan are great, they also had a great team behind them. Susan, from what I've always gathered, is an amazing producer. Maureen wrote a load of Last Call Poker and some of my favorite pieces from it. Steve, well, having worked with him on Metacortechs, I know how great he is but his work for 42 has really stood up - the Dark Knight stuff has been great as was Last Call Poker (I don't know how much of either is his, but I know he's had his hand pretty deep in both). Plus, with Steve being involved with and respected in the ARG community, they'll not lose the loyalty of the hard core folks and the more casual players - well, will they even care? Some press might be a bit confused at first, but they'll figure it out with another success or two. Same with any clients or potential clients looking their way.

Really, I'm quite excited by this news. There's more than enough work to go around and this will let people better explore the space and experiment in it.

Wait, what?
So to summarize briefly:

1) Y'all are going to be in Pasadena, approximately twenty minutes from me. May, in fact, be there already.

2) Certain luminaries have left 42 Entertainment to form their own company.

3) Also, cancer has been cured, the sky has fallen, and someone proved -- conclusively -- the single-bullet theory.

I must be a mushroom.
avatrix[info]avatrix on November 29th, 2007 02:39 am (UTC)
I've never listened to one of these before, though I'm not really sure why not. Now's as good a time as any to pay attention, so thanks for the head's up!
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 03:14 am (UTC)
never? that's quite an acomplishment ;)
thunderclap8[info]thunderclap8 on November 29th, 2007 04:55 am (UTC)
heh, I have somehow avoided them too. I suppose I should check this one out.
Michael[info]ozymandas on November 29th, 2007 02:43 am (UTC)
HECK yeah!

Come back with an exclusive or three.
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 03:12 am (UTC)
I'm really to find out what they're planning to discuss... I mean, it's an entire netcast, and you can only reminisce so long on interesting company related info... who knows. but it'll be fun any way you swing it :)
Michelle[info]varin on November 29th, 2007 04:11 am (UTC)
Thank goodness you broke the news... squeee! I've been dying to talk about it!
thebruce0[info]thebruce0 on November 29th, 2007 10:11 am (UTC)
I've been waiting and itching to blog, but no one ever replied with an answer, even after the news itself went out, so I took the risk ;)
konamouse[info]konamouse on November 29th, 2007 07:12 pm (UTC)
Maybe something really exclusive or a teaser rabbithole????
